I am in the hiring process with LAPD and I am not doing it expedited. I took filled out the background packet in late September 07 and I am still waiting. I called my case manager in late October and he said my packet was stil being reviewed.
Is this the normal amount of time and I do know they are processing a lot of applicants.

Have you done anything else in the process?

Go here and ask an actual LAPD BI:

Hi Buddits,
Try this website, I am sure BI's will help you with some answers. Good Luck!

Thank you all for the information. Also the only things I have done in the LAPD hiring process is take the written, physical, and turned in my background packet and talk to a BI.

I would suggest you also call your case manager again.
The LAPD goes through thousands of people to hire only a few hundred so it does take some time. In the long run it will be worth it but you do need to be patient. Talk to your case manager and ask for a mentor and for when the CAPS Program is so that you can attend.

I did the expedited testing in the middle of Sept. 07 and have completed the written, BG interview, poly, oral interview, physical agility, and psych written tests. I passed everything except the poly. I got a letter in the mail around the end of October to call them. I called and they said I would get a call back from a BGI for a “clarification” interview. Took almost a month before I got called, after the phone interview, I was sent on. I spoke with another lady there that deals with the expedited candidates she said I would have to take a specific poly, to address the one question there was issues on, but I could do that AFTER my BG so I didn't have to go out there 3 different times.
So, since the middle of November, I’ve heard nothing. I’ve called the BG department and they just keep telling me that a BGI will call me once my packet gets assigned. I’ve called the mentor assigned to me, but have not heard back. Seems like 2 months is a bit long to even START on it, but they are dealing with quite a number of people and with limited resources.
BTW, regarding the poly. The one question that had issues was with my past illegal drug activity. I find this funny as I have NEVER tried an illegal drug before. Maybe that’s what was suspicious, being that I’m 34 and have never tried anything. I’ve had some introduction to the use of Poly’s in my career and looked to them as a tool, but now not at all.

My situation is identical with the exception of the expedited testing..
I have been waiting since late October to hear when I can reschedule my poly. He said I failed the past drug history part which is complete BS..
What can I do........
In the meantime I have applied with some local agency's..
Hopefully that goes a bit faster.
