I'm not military so i really dont know too much about boot shining. I have got some shine with help from a marine friend but its not a spit shine more of a brush shine???

It was funny though my friend said they dont even shine boots anymore.

So how much of a shine do they need?

would i get in trouble for paying someone to get a spit shine?

Did they tell you to "spit shine" them? If they told you to, then you better figure it out. You might pay someone to teach you rather than to just do it once. I am sure a shoe shine guy would gladly take your money to teach you how to do it.

We were allowed to take our boots to the local uniform store and have them spit shined for $8. Tactical Officers rather have it done correctly then a half donkey job done by us. lol

I would assume that you have many options to ave someone shine your gear being that you are in miramar.

I dont know about you but I always took the time to get squared away esp when it came to my boots.

Get some kiwi or lincoln wax

Lighter or heating gun

smear some on the toe/ front of the boot rub it on evenly then take a lighter or a heating gun and melt it on the boot not too long though take a wet cotton ball and buff it.

Heating gun is sooooooo much easier. The trick with the lighter is to hold it away from the boot so the tip of the flame is just brushing the top of the boot that has the wax. You know ur doin well when the wax becomes shiny once your melting it.

5 or 10 minutes you are done.

When I met officers or deputies Id always look at there boots first. LOL

I guess you have to decide if you want to be that cadet that has to be told to do something or the one who anticipates what he will need and finds a way to get it done. The best cops are the problem solvers.

Mira mar requires a high buff shine. THe first few days your going to be running around, marching and doing a lot of push ups. That'll screw up a nice spit shine easily.

I still wear black boots in my flightsuit, although we wear brown ones in our cammies. When I shine the black boots, I like to use the Kiwi PARADE Gloss. It works alot better than the regular stuff. Apply it with the brush, let it set for about 5 minutes, and brush it out good 'n' hard. Then take more polish, and apply a thick coat to the toe, let it set another 5 minutes, and brush it out again. then take an old t-shirt, and some cold water... wrap the shirt around your index finger, and make small circles on the toe. You get a good shine that way.

The first few times are a pain, but as you build up a base of polish, it gets easy. Oh, and make sure you clean your new boots off with soap and water to get the leather preservative off before you shine... it'll save you time.

Thats just my method, but there are plenty of other ways. But I do get comments everyday I wear black boots.

Don't listen to your friend. I would not want to the be one showing up without shined boots. The TAC officers are going to find things wrong with your uniform and equipment no matter how squared away you are.....thats how the game works. Dont make it easy for them by walking in without shined boots.
