SDSO going to SD regional academy? What color name tape?

I am confused does the SO wear a different type of name tape?

Is the engraved metal name plate different for SO, compared to PD for the academy?

When I went through the academy in 1991/1992, the PD wore plain leather gear, gold colored nameplates and gold colored button snaps. The SO wore basket weave leather, silver colored nameplate and silver button snaps.

The gold and silver colors matched the different badge colors. SDPD wore a gold colored shield and SDSO wore a silver 7-ponited start.

At some point after I graduated, the academies combined into a regional academy. ALL recruits had to wear blue uniforms while in the academy (including SDSO). This did not make sense to me since SDSO wears tan over green. While I worked the jail, I remember a lot of complaints from graduating recruits who had to wear “mechanic outfits” (blue uniform) at the academy.

I don’t know what is going on at the academy now. I don’t know what they wear.

It's more like SDPD is different than everyone else... SDSO and the other agencies are all silver metal and basket weave gear... SDPD is gold and plain leather.

Though one of my buddies in the academy bought silver name plates so he could get cheaper pens to match... no one noticed since there's no department insignia in the academy :D

The blue Dickie mechanic outfits were the norm when I went through the academy no matter what department you were with. You only wore your agency uniform for graduation, photos, etc. The "rumor" I was told was that a recruit that had to do pushups in their agency uniform messed up the uniform. The agency this recruit worked for required officer to buy their own gear so the recruit complained leading to.........everybody wears the cheap mechanic Jiffy Lube dickies.

There are also PD departments with black basket weave and brass metal gear at the academy.:D

I have another pen question do they have to be solid silver I found a set that are silver but the top is black???

You're all over thinking it. Get two matching pens that match your name plate and you will be fine. They will tell you at your agency orientation what you need anyways.

Get cheap pens, I use a zebra brand. It's like $350 for a pen/pencil set. Your going to lose them. Make sure you have more then one pen, you don't write with the one in your breast pocket in the academy.

SDSD is silver name plate, make sure you have at least 2. Are you starting next week? I know a few people who r.

yeah, it's simple and cheap, just make sure you match, all silver. you'll see a lot of people screwed up on the first few days. Listen to the former detentions people, they have been through an academy before.
