I'm taking it on Feb. 2nd. The study guide seems to be way more extensive than the local municipality police tests I have taken, but generally has similar material on it.

Yes, St. John Fisher. This Saturday.

I really can't believe it is here already! Time does fly. Now if I could only get my MCSO results, like tomorrow!

I'm taking it on the 26th and I can't wait!

I went to a tutorial and it actually gave me a lot of insight. There are 40 questions on the regular part and then another 40 which are a personality test. The first 40 are your standard civil service exam questions. The personality portion of the exam asks opinion type questions about certain situations and your overall score on that part is compared to successful officers in the field. It seems a little weird but as long as you answer the questions honestly and consistently we should all do fine.

does anyone know how long the test takes to complete?

They give you 90 minutes for 87 questions. If the tutorial is any indication, you should have plenty of time. It was ridiculously easy.

I'm taking it but so are 20,000 other some-odd people.

If any of you guys missed the tutorial and want the practice exam give me a PM. Maybe I can scan it for you or something. It's nothing earth shattering, it seemed much easier than the RPD test. Also, there is no memory section on this exam which is pretty nice.

BTW, hxd, it seems we are testing on the same location/date at SJF.

I can scan it too, but you'll end up with all of my correct answers. (Yes, I aced the practice exam.)

It does seem as if we're testing at the same time and place. I know of at least three other folks on board who will be there too. Anyone wanna meet for breakfast beforehand? :D

Actually, it was more in jest than anything else.

I can't blame you for not wanting to hang out with us lowly wannabe recruits anyway. We all have these hopes and dreams, but only 10% will make the cut. The rest of us will go on with our lives as computer geeks or REAL garbage men, our morale crushed as we suddenly realize that everything we have worked for to become NYS Troopers will have been for nothing.

Just kidding. I truly do wish everyone the best of luck. But remember... Even if you give it your all, you MAY not get the job. But if you DON'T give it your all, you WILL not get the job.

for those who are taking it in manhattan armory. How you plan to reach that location? Car or public transportation?

I want to drive but after checking the area out, doesn't seem like you'll be able to park anywhere near or around there. And just to think about taking public transportation would be at least two hours from brooklyn

I'm taking it there as well on Feb. 9th; do you know how far away the nearest parking garage is from there?

I will be there as well on 2/09/08. I am flying in from TX and will be staying with my parents in Medford for the weekend.
I have been lurking these forums for some time now and I want to just take a moment thank everyone for all of the insightful information that they have contributed. This forum has answered a number of my questions or at least pointed me in the right direction many times.
So best of luck to you guys and I will see some of you soon!

Don't post any questions here or in private message. I'm pretty sure you could get booted from the process for that. Not everyone has taken the exam yet. Ask a friend or teacher what they think the right answer was that isn't taking the exam or has taken it already.

Technically, you're not allowed to talk about any questions from any civil service test you take. It's in the fine print above something you need to sign or fingerprint.

How strict were they about personal items? Actually, I'm just concerned about being able to keep my cell phone (OFF, of course) in my pocket so I can call my ride after I'm done.

hxd

We were instructed to turn phones off as soon as we walked into the building. There was also a very stern reminder at the beginning of the exam that all phones, pagers, and other devices were to be turned off and placed out of sight during the exam. If you were caught even looking at your phone during the exam, you would be escorted out and not allowed to complete the exam.

You should be OK if you keep it off and out of sight for as long as you're in the exam room.

When I took my test today there were two troopers in the parking telling people to leave their cell phones inside the car, once we all got in line the other two troopers said the same thing. Also There are no bags, backpacks, and any type of drink other then bottle water allowed inside the building. I saw troopers take a couple of people out of the line and send them back to their cars to put things away. I would say just turn it off before you go in the building and once you leave the building call the person to come pick you up.

Out of sight out of mind- you should be ok with your cell phone. As for the test questions, just review the practice guide on the NYSP website. It is a good preview as to what to expect on the exam. Be proficient with the practice questions and you will do well on the exam.

The seating was really weird when i took it, they made us sit in a table of fours like first graders with no borders, I'm surprised no one got booted for cheating.

I definately thought the table thing was weird. I've never taken a test like that. I figured they were going to have us set up in classrooms. Oh well. Now to sit and wait.

You will be notified of your score by mail, probably in May.

wasnt bad, I had time leftover...not a surprise.

Test was pretty easy, there was 2 math questions on the cognitive section that slowed me down...I can get a bit sloppy in the math department :D

Hardest part of the test was getting to the location and in the door :D

I took it Saturday, it wasn't that hard, I had studied with the offical study guide and one I bought from Barnes and Noble. The questions synked up pretty evenly, A few math questions that I got sloppy with. I was suprised by the crowd that showed up. A lot of diversity, to say the least.
