My Ricochet buddy has a Taurus Judge. Pretty sharp looking piece. One of the first things I do when I pick up a revolver is check for play in the cylinder. This thing was brand new with less than 50 rounds through it so I was surprized by the amount of play. I think if I were to put a degree wheel on it the play would be close to 4 maybe 5 degrees. The benchmark I am used to using is my old Super Blackhawk. Virtually no play in that baby even after all the thousands of rounds I ran through it. There's no way I would buy a revolver with that much play in the cylinder.

I really expected more from Taurus, especially after the great write-up in American Rifleman about "The Judge".

Any thoughts on this?

It is a Taurus, they're known for their "hit and miss" quality.

I will never buy one.

I have a Taurus 66 .357 mag that is great quality (not sure when it was made) but I have seen other examples that are not that good.

IMHO the "Judge" is one of those neat handguns that really dosent have a purpose. It's too big for a .45 and I have never really needed a .410 revolver.

Quality issues aside. The only use I could think of for this piece would be for dispatching snakes while in the great outdoors. It got a decent review over on gunblast but I don't think Mr Quinn has ever met a gun he didn't like.

I can't say I have ever used a firearm to dispatch a snake.

If they go on about their way, then I don't have any problems with em. If they stand in mine, then I have no problem turing them into a nice stew. ;)

I'm all for leaving 'em be. I have never shot one either but I have walked up on a rattler before and wished I had more than a scoped .22 plinker with me. Luckily I was able to back away and let it be.

If I spent more time outdoors I would consider a trail gun like this to be useful. But nowadays my money would be better spent on AR parts or the AK build I'm contemplating.

Of course there is always the "Owning a .410 handgun just for the sake of owning it" factor.
