Are you talking Civil Service or non-Civil Service?

Not too sure, are all departments civil service? Prob not.

No, but the vast majority are. However, many of the non-Civil Service towns are in the west so that might be good for you. They are usually small PDs with not a lot of "action." Is that what you're looking for?

Go on Masscops.com and they have a posting that lists all the civil and non civil service towns, you will just have to do a little bit of searching.

Ok, how old are you? My advice to you will make a difference if you're under 20.

Ok, you certainly don't give out too much information for a guy who is trying to find out how to get a job....

Referring to non-Civil Service departments, your Bachelor's Degree will help. Also I would suggest:
Become an EMT or paramedic.
Become an auxilary or Reserve Intermittent Officer
Volunteer at the PD that you would like to work at
Do some research about the town and department where you want to work
Get to know someone on that department so that they can put a word in for you
Join the military and become a veteran (also good for Civil Service towns)

You're gonna be competing with lots of other folks who want that one job so you have to be better than them so that the chief would want to hire you.

Masscops is a good reference point to check also.

Thanks LACopper -- very helpful, I was planning on volunteering at my local PD this summer and from then on, that is also where I would really like to work. Thanks again for your advice, if you think of any other advice let me know! Thanks again!
