Do these departments accept laterals from out of state?

Anyone moving into MO has to go through the Misssouri Peace Officers and Standards Training board to see if your training is acceptable by Missouri....

Here's the study guide and how it breaks things down......

http://www.dps.mo.gov/POST/Main/Adobe%20Files/PeaceOfficerLicensingHandbook.pdf

And here's the licensing and contact info.....

http://www.dps.mo.gov/POST/Main/LicensingInformation.htm

They are the ones that are going to say yes or not....and/or tell you what you need to do to get your license in MO. Once you complete that and get licensed, you can go from there and look at agencies......

I do know that St. Louis County takes laterials.......as they snatch Troopers all the time due to higher pay.....

Not sure why you would want to work in the City.....as it's a craphole and if you work there....you have to live in the City.....No way getting around that.....and that would suck.....

Just an FYI....the folks at POST are slow....and can be a real PITA to deal with..... so beware before you call.....

It's been my experience that if you try to get something from POST....

Don't let them forget about you, make multiple calls within a month to try and speed things up.

As a city guy, I say go for St. Louis County! The crime rate is lower and the pay is higher! Besides, the county doesn't have our retarded residency requirement. Unless you feel like living in the city for seven years, I would go with the county or a muni within the county. Unfortunately, I have to work for the city for two more years before I can even look elsewhere. If you go through the city's academy, you have to work for them for four years or pay them back the cost of your tuition!

Don't worry man them two years will be over by the time you know it. I'm getting ready to start my application for STLPD.

I would encourage you to look at the metro east (Illinois), 15 minutes from downtown Stl and the departments pay really well. Plus housing is much cheaper over here. Google Southwestern Illinois Police Jobs.

I would imagine you are excluding East St. Louis from your statement.

Hey guys, can you tell me how the hiring process works for Stl County? What is the Recruit position, are you an actual hire, or just sent through the acadamey and then hope to be hired?

There are a couple of ways to get hired by the County. You can be hired by the County, get paid by them through the academy, and then work for them after graduating. Or, you can go through open enrollment, which basically means you pay your way through and try to get hired while in the academy. Many of the St. Louis area departments use the County academy, so it is rare someone graduates and goes too long without getting hired somewhere. One problem is that sometimes the departments looking for people are not the ones that person wants to work for. The bigger problem is that you don't earn a salary from the PD while in the academy. Not many people I know can do this unless they have a well-to-do spouse or are able to live with parents for six months.

The first few years I worked there, they picked up a lot of open enrollment people near the end of the academy. It was beneficial to the department because they did not have to pay salary/benefits through the academy and could wait to hire someone until they were sure that person was going to graduate. On the other hand, the last couple of years they started doing more hiring and sending people through the academy. I've been gone now for a few months, so I'm not sure if that trend has changed.

Hello everybody. Just wanted to add something. The Metro East has quite a few great depts to work for. Stay away from ESLPD, the pay is the only good thing they have. I used to work there, glad i left when I did it hasn't gotten any better. Good Luck.
