as always i see the good men and women patrolling the nyc subways.

i was wondering, is that where you are posted your whole shift? do you have to stand around in one area of the subway the whole time? i understand foot patrol is pretty much standing the whole time, but at least you get to walk around a few block radius. from what i could see, most of the officers patrolling the subways stand there like statues. anyone have to deal with this?

sorry if this is stupid question. just trying to satisfy curiousity, pass time, you know...

NYPD has a transit bureau who patrol the subways.

The officers patrol the subways themselves and usually do not go onto the surrounding streets (of course, they jurisdictionally can if they want to - they are in the NYPD).

They don't simply stand posts. They walk trains, platforms, and stations and answer calls for service involving subway (or NYC bus) crimes.
