Will this ever happen in the near future? or will they be just handing out these non-lethal weapons to APO's ?

APO's will not have these before PO's get them.

only nypd bosses have tasers..

imagine how many perps will be tasered on a daily basis with a mountain of lawsuits piling against the city.

the city love to settle $10k per person just to make the case go away.

The NYPD will be issued tasers within the next 3-5 years. Its just a matter of buying enough X-26's . They won't issue anything other than those because they have the ability to monitor how many times you discharge the weapon (drive stuns also)

I really doubt that.

You think the Auxiliary will get em too after them.

I don't see the department issuing them to auxillaries

i would ratter shoot a taser round at a perp then to say shoot a round of 9mm into the person.

first off- having USED the X-26 and its predecessor(M26) frequently- don't continue with that frame of mind-tasers are under the scope of "less lethal" use of force, and would totally be inappropriate for someone charging at you with a metal pipe or even a 3" pocket knife(and DEFINITELY armed with a handgun).Though the taser is an effective neutralizing tool in the force continuum,it is NOT perfect and alot of instances it is also inappropriate and has,at times FAILED to stop the threat - had a mentally ill man with a tire iron pull both barbs out upon being struck;he was OC'd twice before 6 officers swarmed him and took him into custody. If it were a single officer involved in the confrontation and he/she could not have created distance or gained compliance via verbal commands ,less lethal,or impact devices- the only option may have come to deadly force. Bottom line- if you have to deploy deadly force to "stop the threat"(protect yourself or others from imminent violence or serious bodily injury) then thats what you do.It may sound harsh and ugly but thats the way it has to be.........
