Hi,

Well I have decided to leave my job as an insurance agent and pursue a career in law enforcement. I will be 23 as of Monday the 7th..I have to call today and set up an appointment with the chief of a department to inquire about being a class 1

Anyone have any tips or suggestions before I call. I know the obviouse such as be polite, call him sir?, answer questions truthfully and so on.. anything else..

Thanks. :)

Addressing him as sir will be your best bet. I dunno how much you'll get from calling or meeting with the Chief if there isn't a posting for a Class I position. It's a good way to get in, but also look at becoming a dispatcher. Civil Service exam applications are out so I would pick one up or download and send in the money to take the test. Also, look at shoretowns as they will still be hiring Class I for the season and in South Jersey they may still be accepting some Class II's. If your near Essex County their Deputy Sheriff program will be taking apps in July I believe. You'll get a Class II cert which a lot of departments will waiver for the full ptc. Good luck!

I live in a shore town and this would be for class 1 for a neighboring shore town. Ship Bottom, NJ if you are familiar.. its on Long Beach Island (LBI). I live in Manahawkin, which is the town you HAVE to go through to get to LBI.

i have aready completed the LEE app. and sent in the money to take the test for all titles and accepting employment in all counties..
