I dunno about down south but alot of central FL SOs are hiring. Last I heard OCSO, MCSO, CCSO, and PCSO where hiring and I know for a fact ACSO and GPD are. I was also told FWC was on a hiring freeze and a friend of mine just got on with them, go figure. I just hope the new propery tax law gets shot down because my academy does not start till may and my wife will not let us leave the area.

What about FHP?

According to FHP's website there is an Academy coming up this summer. I assume they are recruiting for that Academy at this time.

Again, why come to Florida? The Broadband/Pay Plan is not funded and one will never is $79,579.24. I'm a 12 year veteran with FDOT and I barely make over $36,000.00. This is the reason why the State of Florida has a shortage of law enforcement officers in all agencies. That's why I'm leaving as soon as possible.

Seminole is hiring 35,303 to start 60k top put. No clear pay step program, however, we've never gotten less than 5% a year. We have roughly 25-30 openings and sponser new recruits and out of state laterals. Laterals get 2% for every year of exp.

The Sentinel's Friday edition covering the aftermath of the fog-induced tragedy on Interstate 4 featured interesting comments from some of our state elected leaders. Their interest in why there is a statewide trooper shortage is nice to hear, but their comments do seem to ring hollow when you consider their actions last year are a contributing factor to why so few troopers cover such a large area.

During last year's legislative session, state employees, including troopers, received no pay raise. Instead they received only a $1,000 bonus that did not count toward their base salary. In other words, with inflation factored in, troopers are making less money this year than last. When you consider the FHP is one of the lowest paid law-enforcement agencies in the state, moves like that do not help recruitment or retention.

I would like to think our state elected leaders would remember that the next time they ponder why troopers leave for other law-enforcement agencies. But if our politicians stay true to form, then the only place the fog has lifted is along I-4.
