Greetings to the list!

I'm writing to the list with hopes of getting direction, ideas, etc.

A brief history of myself. I'm 37, Male, eastern Pennsylvania. Ten years ago I had a severe accident which had me in a wheelchair, I had to move back home, etc. I worked my way back from it (trust me that was very hard), off medications, and all to now being fully walking, no problems but not 100%, but getting there (upper body good, but need to work on lower body). Before the accident that I was starting graduate school (BS in Forensic Psychology), working part time in a non LEO field. My aspects were to go into LE, but wish school I had a funding so I wanted to continue.

Now, I want to go into LEO, but do not know where to start. I'm finding my age is starting to work against me in some places. I don't mind moving either in state or across the country as other than my parents I have no other family other than my on again off again girlfriend. I have a clean history/background, good credit, no drug/alcohol history or never even experimented with drugs, no arrests.

Where I live is very political for LE jobs. Unfortunately I know nobody political. I'm not in Philadelphia, where I believe you have to reside for 6 months before you can even apply. I'm on the list for the Penn. Probation/Parole (took the test) but have not heard anything since.

My question would be, where would be good to start looking? Or what would someone advise to do? I don't mind moving if I knew prospects were good, but I don't know where. I've always wanted to get into LE as I feel I have a lot to offer, I don't mind working hard, and I don't like seeing others being taken advantage of (any manner be it through physical, drugs, etc.), as if you're gonna do it once, chances you'll do it again without help.

So again, reply or message me. Ideas are appreciated.

What are you interested in (traffic, going from call to call, investigations, city, county, state)? The options are virtually unlimited. You are most likely out of luck federally because of your age. With local, county or state you will probably start out as an officer on a beat, a deputy on patrol, or a trooper on patrol. After the first few years (depending on the department) you could do anything from riding a horse to flying helicopter or working under cover to working as a detective.

MGC750,

Well to be honest, it really does not matter to me as I'm willing to start off where ever, doing whatever is needed. Now if I had my choice, based on how I feel and what I've been told, probably investigations of some type as in my internships I was rated as "having a lot of patience" with people or situations.

Local, county or state. Well again, I'd do any and most likely stick with it. Before my accident, I worked at the same job for 11 years, but worked my way up in the company starting off mopping floors in high school! Naturally if I had a choice I'd look for the best pay or benefits (as most would), but that's if I had a choice, otherwise it would be where there is an opening/academy.

I guess one thing I've learned from looking at life from a wheelchair was there is more to life than money. Being able to help others, prevent others from being harmed, integrity are much more important IMHO.

Can you give details of where to look please?
