I'm currently in the hiring process for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. I have been reading all the NCIS posts I can and they have been very helpful. I'm hoping to get some more updated information about the current hiring environment with NCIS.

Throughout this process, there have been times I worried my paperwork had been lost or that things were taking too long. It helped me to see ROSchwoe's NCIS timeline in another post. Is there anyone else in the NCIS process that would care to share their timeline?

Here is mine:

Sent in application: February, 2006
Written Test and Psychological Exam: June, 2006
Initial Interview: October, 2006
Panel Interview: October, 2006
Background Investigation: July - September, 2007
Medical Exam: October, 2007
Urinalysis: October, 2007
Hiring Pool Letter: ?
NCIS employment: ?

Also, does anyone know when the next "paper board" will meet to determine who will be added to the hiring pool or when the remainder of the current FY classes are scheduled to start?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello!
I followed the same process as you did, only that the folks at the navy yard lost my application once in 2006 and I didn't get paneled until this past August. Anyways, I received a letter that stated the board would be held sometime this year and I would be notified accordingly. I have no new information for you other than the process is very slow and you should make it by going this far.
I was selected by Diplomatic Security so I begin with them soon.
DSS took over 15 months to from application to start date, NCIS would've been well over 2 years.
Good Luck to you!

4x4,

Thanks for the info and congratulations on DSS. Assuming I do in fact make it to the hiring pool, my main concern is getting into the pool before the remaining classes for this fiscal year are filled. It would be nice if I did not have to wait another year before it is even possible to get hired, but I know others have waited longer than me so I'll just wait and be happy. Good luck with DSS and be safe.

Yes, you have the right attitude--nothing moves fast in the federal LE business as you've seen thus far. With the latest bill being past, school should be a go, however, last year NCIS couldn't send their last class to school b/c of buedget constraints, yet I "think" they'll keep you in the hiring pool for a while ~24months before you class-in or are removed for time reasons. No matter what, all of these jobs take quite along time to get so remained settled in the mean time... I was stationed in central missouri near warrensburg--know the area?

I'm just thankful I currently have a full-time job that pays the bills and that I like. I can't imagine going through this process fresh out of college or in a situation where I needed a new career. It has just about been two years for me; what's another year or two, right :) I still have seven more years that I'm eligible to get into federal law enforcement. Seven years generally seems like a long time, but it seems like it is right around the corner when you’re talking about federal LEO hiring. I went to school in Warrensburg. Where you at Whiteman?
