Thought I would report this in the NY section, didnt realise i put it in the wrong section the other day.

For a number of years now I have had an interest in NYC. I recentley travelled their and loved it. I am currently training in an Australian Police force but have a dream of possibly one day going over to NYC and joining either PAPD or NYPD. At this stage it is just that, a dream, what do people think my chances are if I ever decided to pursue this?

Thanks to those who replied when I orgionally posted.

Basically you need to be a US citizen, live in the Boroughs of NYC and be under 35 years old - accomplish that first and joining the NYPD is relatively easy.

For PAPD, you need to be a US Citizen, reside in either the State of New York or State of New Jersey, and possess a Driver's License from either of those states. PAPD is a Bi-State Agency with police powers in both states.

You don't have to live within the 5 boroughs, you can live in a few neighboring counties as well, Naussau, Suffolk, Westchester, and others.

The maind thing for you is get ur tanscripts and make sure your education is accredited in united states than you will have to move become a citizen which would take you at least 5 years thne you can take the exam to be hired now as far as PAPD you have slim chances just because Officers form new york that are in law enforcement have problems going into PAPD and PAPD had an exam every 4 years which they just gave this year so the next one will be in 2011 so take your age your education and your immigration status into consideration
