I'm on exam 7011 and my list is 155 - I went through all the tests, and a month went by with nothing...then last month in the middle of June, two detectives came by to question my neighbors and I figured everything was good since why would they do all that if there was a problem, right? Well I contacted my BI yesterday just to make sure...and she told me that I was on Psych review all this time. I never even got anything in the mail...and now this sucks royally b/c my BI won't take any ownership to help me out. She just waved it off saying she had nothing to do with psych...basically like I was on my own. I called the Candidate Relations Unit and they suggested I call the Psych Div. since it could take a year to wait for anything in the mail...and when I called them, I only got an option to leave a message. Wow, this sucks badly.

Yeah, but the problem about the appeal process is your gonna spend thousands getting a lawyer to reverse the grade and get a new psychiatrist to do another interview with you..maybe... well as for me, if i get a DQ or still under review, ill just concentrate on school work to get my Bachelors degree and THEN i decide what to do next.. since the civil exam lasts for 4 years, thats alot of time to think about your next move

Well from what i was told everything might be ok and i should get called for tuesday but the fact that this came up and i still havent been called and seem to be the only one left has me a bit skeptical. Well tuesday my BI called me saying she needed my correction investigators number and everything else was fine. My guess is they havent been able to get a hold of him. Not sure :/, i failed my correction phycolgical i really hope that is not going to be a issue because i passed theirs!!

I started yesterday lol, I took the polish off and brought my shoes down to the original layer. I will put on around 2-3coats of polish on Monday night.

I used rubbing alcohol to take off all the polish from them last time I shined them I also used a old rag and a horse hair brush.

This is pretty similar to how I shine my shoes, except I take out the laces and do the horse hair brush before I polish them.

P.S- take the time to polish your shoes with the real stuff, don't use that express garbage they sell in the stores. It will ruin your shoes after a while IMO.

Once you're sworn in, you are technically police officers... Just police officers without training, this is what I was told when I was in the academy.

As far as the LIRR, I know for a fact that the academy staff is going to tell you that you have to pay until you receive your LIRR passes, it's not true the conductors will let you go if you show your Bert and Ernie ID's, but they don't have to.. They will also let you go once you're in uniform, but technically they don't have to without the LIRR pass. So be respectful to them and stand when the train is crowded...

within the first three weeks they're going to ask you for a 605.00 money order. That includes
4recruit shirts
2pants
gun belt and everything on it
Rain coat
Winter coat
and you will be require to buy a flashlight and holder for it and a 2nd pair of handcuff.
and you have to buy your PT gear

towards the middle of the academy they will tell us to go buy our class A uniforms that will run about 500-700.
towards the end you have to buy your patrol uniform that can run from 300-1000 depending on how many you buy and what you buy and where you get it from. The best way to do it is start out with two uniforms or three if you can and every month go and buy a new shirt next month buy a new pair of pants and so on until you get a decent amount.

that's all you need for the first couple of months I believe.
I saved up 2k just for the gear.

IMO- don't take the loan the credit union offers, the interest rate is really high go through your bank.

p.p.s- You can expect to spend around 3,000-5,000 on gear and uniform while in the academy.

I've had 6friends go through the academy lol 2 in the academy that just past, 1 last July and one 2years ago, and the rest a couple of years ago. I have 4academy shirts already. Two short sleeves and two long sleeves.

The check was just your uniform allowance given out to you at the academy instead of December. I don't know if they're still doing that since we got the pay raise, I know they did it the last couple of classes to help people out.

The MTA Police uniform is the NYC Police Academy uniform... They go through the same academy. It's the same uniform. For those of you who don't have the $600 they will give you a voucher where you can get the money and when you get your uniform allowance check in January they will take the money back out of that......

1) I went with Vytra, I had their health insurance around 2-3yrs ago and it was really good.

2) I know we need passport pics, I've heard 10. I'm just going to wait until they tell us on the first day.

3)What can you do.

4)no one knows, could be the 2nd week, 1st week who knows.

They're pretty good, NIke, original price 100 but I got them for 60 because my friend gave me his discount. I'm use to running 3miles 4times a week. Now I know its going to be hard in the academy because you're running in formation and you have to worry about tripping over the person in front of you,behind you, next to you and you'll be breathing in dust and like54757524545854867468416874684648644 laps make 3miles in that small track.

Yes, the socks have to be low cut, not below the ankle with no logos on them... You guys are gonna have to buy some white t-shirts, and a pair of blue mesh shorts from modells. The reason for this is when you first start gym, you're not gonna have your gym uniforms, they're gonna make you buy a pair of blue mesh shorts from modells (not below the knee) and white t-shirts, and you're going to write your last name on your t-shirt and your company number until you get your gym uniforms..

The best thing to do is to go to modells, that's what I did, and I found those for cheap... And they were very good running sneakers..... My boy in the academy with me even went out and bought them.

I took all my suits to the dry cleaners today, Monday night I will apply 2-3coats of shoe polish to my shoes. Last night I just took off all the polish that was there and brought the shoes down to their original layer. I had to order a a electric shaver since I'm going to need to use it every morning or every other morning, I know if I use the regular razor that would kill my skin.

P.S-stay away from bright color that call attention to you, such as reds and high yellows things like that.

Well, The first couple of days a couple hundred people quit. IMO dumbest thing ever, I guess they can't take all the yelling and all that other crap or realize its not for them, but backfills start around two weeks after we start and then they play catch up in the academy.

there is no such thing as randomly on review, people are on review for a reason. But people randomly find out if that makes any sense. Review sucks, I was on medical review.

there were tons of people on review for things as simple as medications. Ritalin was being looked at as a problem. it seems people would be psych reviewed for it.

I doubt that's true since the 22nd is a Tuesday. It would make more sense for backfill to start on a Monday. But that's just pure speculation and based on my own personal logic. Then again, I could be completely wrong. Just doesn't make sense for people knowing about backfill when the phone calls for Tuesday aren't even done. I'd say he's just BSing and wants to save face. :)

"hey all, i just graduated from the academy as well. i'm trying to think of some good advice for you guys...

*DON'T be late. and if you're on time, you're still late! a rule of thumb my company always used was to arrive anywhere we had to be about a half hour earlier than they say to be there.
*i know you'll be busy and running around trying to get everything set for the next day but make sure that you get to sleep early each night. do NOT fall asleep at queens college or at the academy! this was a weird adjustment for me since i'm used to staying up late and i had day tour. you have to realize that you may be in class but you ain't in college anymore. if you fall asleep you WILL get called out on it and it doesn't look good!
* you will arrive at QC and everyone will be yelling their heads off at you. don't let this throw you off! it really is essential towards getting in the right mindset for the academy. keep in mind that a few months later, these same cops who are walking around screaming at you will become great mentors and role models to you and you will leave the academy being glad to have been taught by them. they are all awesome people and great cops.
*in the academy you will run every day. do NOT drop out of the run. it is not hard and the pace is slow. if you aren't used to running i know it may be hard but staying in is what will make you better. and it will pay off later on, trust me! run dropouts are put on remedial status, they have to stay late at the end of every gym class, they get return roll call at the end of every day (you have to stay late!) and you'll lose points in your gym grade. ps the gym instructors are especially intense but they really care and want you to succeed! they will work their hardest to make sure everyone is doing things right, make sure you do your part and work your hardest as well.
*females! (or guys with long hair) i am a female and i had to deal with this. it sucks but tough! no pony tails, no jewelry, nothing crazy like that. put your hair in a neat bun and leave it like that. if it's even slightly messy you will get a lot of crap for it! also yes you are allowed to bring a purse to QC but NOT the academy.
*the list of things to bring is pretty self explanatory but make sure you really have all of it!

i think this is most important. at the academy you'll be in a class called a company and you will do everything together. now that's ALOT of time together. what i learned is that you'll definitely come across people that you may not agree with or won't like. but you and your company must learn to get along and work together. this is ESSENTIAL or else you will ALL get into trouble. and you'll see what i mean, how quickly sometimes everyone will suddenly be hating on each other. have patience, learn to compromise, learn to understand that even if it's not what YOU want, if it's something the company sergeant tells everyone they have to do (ex: in the cold months, 1 person forgot their gloves for muster outside so EVERYONE has to take their gloves off so you're uniform as a company) tough! you gotta do it.

i'm happy to see digitalfrenchie and gio got the call, i've been seeing you guys post here for quite a while. congrats!

all in all it was a pretty crazy experience but i have no regrets and am really excited to be starting my career as a police officer. good luck to all of you and congrats! "

In any case is anyone on Long Island that is looking to Carpool. I am definately going to be driving to the Academy for a number of reasons.
1. You are not supposed to sit on the train and standing on the way there and on the way back after a long day in the heat and of PT, the car will be a nice seat with air conditioning and a little music.
2. When my brother was in the academy as well as a few of my friends, they missed the train multiple times and had to wait for the next one adding another hour onto their days. Sometimes you are not let out on time as well.
3. With a few people in a car it will not cost that much and to have a car waiting right in a parking garage a block from the academy and then able to hop right in it and go home would be great without having to them take the subway to the LIRR back to home.
Just some thoughts, but i am driving either way. Im in Bellmore and if anyone else is interested in driving let me know. I have aol messanger we can talk. Congrats to everyone else. It's going to be a long few days of paperwork and sun.

They might not run a fast pace in the academy but it's still hard since you're running in formation and you have to worry about tripping over the person in front of you, the person behind you tripping over you and the person on the side. and they have one of those small tracks that 5315648643546843436laps make 2miles.

Yes indeed, One of my friends went to the academy last year and he got the call at 3:30am the day of the academy to report at 7:00am that same day. My advise to everyone just get your stuff ready like money orders and so on just in case that happens to you.

I've been told that we're not allowed to park on the campus since you need a parking permit. I hate that crap, my school was the same way.

I know about review...............but what if they know you don't fit the criteria, do they send out a notice or do you just get the bad news from your BI.

The last time I met with my BI I overheard another investigator talking about one of his candidates...........He went on about how she quit doing coke because she wanted this job. He then went on about how he would love to see if she makes it. Now knowing that, will she be waiting for a call or will she be notified that it is documented she has a drug problem and cannot be hired for this job?
