Does anyone here have experience with the Virginia Department of Corrections? How long is the hiring process? How are the benefits? How is the pay? Anything else you'd like to add, I'd be glad to hear it.
I worked for the Va DOC for a year at Deep Meadow Correctional Center. Each facility did there own hiring and went through thier process it did not take me very long to go through the process due to the need for officers. Once you get on you have to go through the training program which will alst approx 13 to15 week depending. You have a 1 week orintation then a 2 week class at your regional training center then a couple of weeks at the prison observing when there is an opening at the acadamy you will spend 5 weeks maybe more now there once you return to your prison you will have to be with an FTO and go through a training book of all posts at your prison. The benifits are good (State benifits) Retirment is state as well as VALORS which is extra for law officers in the state. I enjoyed my time with the DOC and there is a lot of room for growth in the dept it is not unheard of to make Sgt in a little over a year. I left the dept due to Family issues and moved to TN where I joined a Sheriff's dept. I hope that helps
