I think that zero tolerance should show the city the current road patrol is about 150 officers short.

while zero tolerance has been good for the city that is not a long term solution.

Please elaborate. I took the RPD test last month and would like to know anything I can about the dept.

Thanks.

I guess you haven't been following the local news up there! They've been saturating the streets and locking people up for any violation for a few months now with tons of overtime, some mandatory, because of a few homicides that got everyone all stirred up for some reason. I think what Mark means is that while the zero tolerance & extra OT is working, it's extremely expensive for the city and may not be sustainable. The department has been shorthanded for a long time now, well before this zero tolerance policy went into effect, so while I agree that RPD is way understaffed, it's not exactly breaking news.

On a side note, if you search this forum for "rochester" or "rpd" you'll find a lot of good info.

RPD has been short 60 -75 officers for over 15 years now. They were short when I was hired, always have been and always will be. They say it cheaper to give out the OT than hire new officers. The ZERO TOLERANCE is a joke, if Duffy let the officers do their jobs to begin with without fear of being in IA everyday the city wouldn't have this problem. But now that he is in a political position he is doing it, give me a break.
RPD use to be the place to work, but ever since the Urlacler arrest and indictments the department kept going down hill. We thought it would change but it only got worse.
Let the officers do their jobs.

Anyone have any inside info on if RPD is still looking at Feb. 2008 to start the academy from last July's test? I'm hearing conflicting things...some say yes and others say it is not looking like they have enough qualified candidates and it may be pushed back. Any info would be appreciated.

If your hired and waiting for the academy, just contact your background officer and they will be able to give you a better idea on whats going on.

I don't know if I'm hired....i went through the whole process back in october and my BI said I would get a formal letter of acceptance or denial in January and then the academy would start in February...but he didn't seem 100% sure of the timetable yet and from what I hear things can change pretty quick!

Things can change fast is right. Be patient and just ride it out. When I was hired , I was an intern within the department and was told that the academy was in October, well about 11 months later was when the academy started. They have gotten their act together since then but the actual start date can change and often does.

You'll get thee and once you do, do your best and stay out of trouble and away from the immature ones.
