My department is currently looking for a new hire. We have one position open. If you are in Alaska and interested PM me and I will give you more info. Be warned...this is a bush assignment and is about as isolated as it gets.

Is this position still open? I served on St. Paul Island when I was in the Coast Guard many years ago!!

I was stationed there for a year... I'm sure it probably hasn't changed that much! :)

Pay is DOE I think non-cert hires start at like $39,000. Lats will start out higher. Medical, no eye or dental though.
But, lets not let the facts cloud the issue here...you get paid to live and work in AK. What more could you ask for?

Been in Saint Paul before (not by choice). There isn't a job that would take me back there - no way, jose! Thanks for the post.

Long story short...we didn't hire anyone from here. We ended up hiring a new chief. Our other officer resigned recently and we are looking for another body. It's a rough place to work but, you will most likely never get as much experience in a larger dept. than you will here.
I had been here for about a month and hadn't even been to the academy yet and got thrown right into a murder investigation

Isn't Saint Paul a tiny island in the Bering Sea with only 500 people? I think I have seen it on The Deadlist Catch. Does most of the crime happen during crab season?

We have a seafood processing plant here and we do have some problems out of some of their employees during crab season. Not as much as you would think though.
Like most small villages in Alaska our problems stem from alcohol. We have a lot of DV assaults and criminal tresspassing and whatnot.
Noone expects anyone to retire from here...but, it is a good place to get started. You get alot of experience and it is a good place to spend your year to get your certification.
Oh, and FYI...you can look out your front window and see the boats from teh Deadliest Catch coming into the harbor to offload.
Shame you're so far away. Something isolated sounds nice at times even though the weather is crap. I have family in the big lake area. Just too costly to even go there to test.
