NYPD Mounted

Anyone know anything about the Mounted Unit? Is it hard to get in? What is the work like? Do you have a regular shift?

If you read my other post - NYPD Transit - you know I'm interested in dealing with the public. That's what attracts me to the "job."

on the nypd website there is a little series called inside the nypd and the mounted unit is the focus of one of the episodes. from what I've heard the mounted unit is pretty elite and hard to get into, but dont quote me on that.

Thanks IAmJeff, I did see the video. Partly that's what piqued my curiosity. I figured it's probably something a lot of people want. On the other hand, there are a lot of gung ho people who would rather tangle with drug dealers, so I thought maybe...

its pretty hard to get into and the training program is tough too. Imagine an EVOC course for horses.

They do alot of high profile events, like baseball games, attractions etc.
They dont usually look for guys with horse experience but I guess it wouldnt hurt.
