does anyone know or work as a esu officer? in order to be a esu officer do you have to live in nyc? i heard you do b/c if something happends you have to go even if ur not working that day is this true?

my friends dad is an ESU cop he lives out in suffolk county.

ESU is manned 24/7 unless its a BIG disaster they dont recall officers.

I strongly believe that if you are employed by NYPD you have to be a NY resident.

in order to be an NYC PO you have to live in the 5 boroughs or surrounding counties.

The requirements for ESU arent really set in stone. From what my friends dad told me they look for guys with high numbers quality arrests and specialties (electricians, mechanics) also what he did was become EMT and Scuba certified before joining ESU. They also put you through a physical exam, and I believe make you do stuff like rapell (sp?) also a firearms course.

Realisticly you need a really big hook, but could do it on your own.

how long is probation?

I think it's 2 years from date of hire, meaning 18 months after you graduate the academy.
