I have seen positions on USA Jobs for an Investigative Assistant, schedule 1802 positions. Is anyone familiar with these, such as duties and if they are good to use to get into an 1811 job, or not. It seems at some places you would be doing leg work for the 1811, but at others it was alot of administrative and more clerical type work. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I know with my ICE office it's very administrative/clerical type work. I do know of one person that made the leap from an I.A. to a Special Agent. It would get you some insight and connections that could help. Just make sure you're comfortable with what you're getting yourself into as an IA.

IMO:

If you want to be an 1811 you would be better served going local/state before 1802. Going local or state will give you the skills/training/experience to make you competitive in the 1811 process.

Update - just noticed you are a local police officer, that experience is better than pushing papers. If you want to go federal still, try going w/ USPP or some other 0083 gig and get in the federal system.

I currently am an 0083, I just didnt know if that would help more, or actually being in an agency and getting anytime there would help more. Thanks for the help and insight, it gives me a better perspective.

. . . but at others it was alot of administrative and more clerical type work. At the three agencies I've worked for that's how the IA jobs were. For all practical purposes they are secretaries. In fact they always got a nice present from everyone in the office on Secretary's Day.

Now I have seen a lot "Intel" jobs where the people were actually doing work that directly assisted investigations with work that was more than just admin assistance.
