If u already cant see from my name I am an Explorer. 20 Years old. I made the big mistake of ever goin 97 in a 55 red handed. But I told the officer of AAPD MD I knew i made a BIG mistake,it was late and just trying to go home.I then advised him I was an Explorer. Didnt have my "creds" to prove so... But now I want to start the application process but I have 5 points. Can I still make it? Only God knows how bad I want this...help me guys...

any advice?

97?! Certainly won't help, but it shouldn't be the end of the world. How long ago was this? Did you go to court/pay fine?

I'm surprised you pulled the 'Explorer' title. Back when I was one, I remember being told we were finished if we tried that. Did you inform your supervisor?

Time is your best friend. The more time between you and a poor decision, the better. Good luck!

Yes...while you're waiting to put a little distance between you and your mistake, you might want to remove the good Corporal's name and agency from your post

Not a LEO, but wanted to ask a question...

Did you go to court for the ticket or did you just pay the fine? If you received the ticket in MD you should have went to court. You could have plead guilty and maybe gotten off on a PBJ, especially if it was your first offense. You may have not had the fine or points reduced because of the excessive speed , but it would not have hurt to try.

I received a ticket in PA this past April. In PA it really sucks, you are either guilty or not. I admit that I was speeding so I could only pay the fine and had points added to my record. Luckily it only stays on for a year. Its sucks in PA, you make one mistake and thats it. In MD, they let you off with a PBJ usually and give you 1-2 years probation. I've read that this is more effective tool in stopping a person from speeding rather than just adding the points automatically to your record.

went to court plead guilty...came out in the end guilty. Paid the fine also. But the points stay on for 2 years, and in january will only be 1.

Not the end of the world. List the citation/disposition on your SPH or Background Packet. Keep in mind that your affiliation with Law Enforcement affords you no special priviledges. Good luck.
