Troopers/ Municipal officers:

What are your thoughts/feelings around the new State Police pursuit policy that has just been publicized? I know it has been in effect for some time now...

I'm fairly new and haven't been in a pursuit yet... I know the number one most important thing is everyones safety, but do you see this as a way for criminals to evade the police with more satisfactiong knowing they may have a better chance of escaping?

My dept. is having us watch a P.U.R.S.U.E. video, and I anticpate a policy change following soon as well

If you read the policy correctly, it doesn't take away pursuits. It simply puts the duty officer in charge of each pursuit. The recent fatal in Foxboro showed the the trooper and duty officer followed the procedure properly, and the idiot tossed a gun before the fatal crash in a residential area. All the good guys went home at the end of their shift knowing they did the right thing.

not trying to ruin the thread question, but does anyone have any input on hiring for MA state police...I'm originally from MA, just moved about a month ago...

The last test had over 20,000 test takers, and about 400 were hired over 3 classes. Sooo, do the math. I'd stay in NC if I were you. As a matter of fact, being stationed there for many years I considered going there before I got the job here. The pay isn't great but the cost of living is generally cheaper for a 2-income household. I'm gonna retire there and hopefully some Sheriffs Department will hire a 57 y/o just to stay busy :D.
