Anyone here recently go through the hiring process with FLPD?

If so how would you compare that experience with that of other departments/offices if you went through a hiring process with another?

Was the oral equal to or tougher than other depts.?

How was their reaction to you as an applicant? ie happy you are in their process, or just matter of fact?

Anything else you can share about their process...

I was hired in 2003 (quit this year) and it was a stress interview. Not too bad but my first of that type. They are really desperate to hire, so I would think they would make it a little better this time around.

If you don't mind me asking, why'd you quit? Something to do with Tennessee?

FLPD hiring process has sped up significantly over the past year due to so many officers leaving the force. I heard from a friend of mine that some people are getting hired within a month. Therefore, this might be a good time to apply if you want to get hired quickly. Some standards might have been lower to pick up more people, backgrounds are on overdrive to meet the demand.

On the down side: morale is low, negotiations for the new contract are flat, and many FLPD officers are putting applications elsewhere. As a matter a fact, just about every Broward agency has at least one FLPD officer in their eligibility list for hire. I’m sure that more than a few are now MGPD Officers.;)

Thank you for the info.

FLPD698 I take it you are an officer with FLPD? Although your screen name gives that appearance, but since you indicated a lot of officers have left FLPD, I had to ask...

Plain and simple, do you enjoy your job/career at FLPD? I understand the contract issues and the other issues mentioned on this site, others and in the newspapers, but I have to ask, are things really better at other depts/offices?

There’s still a lot of good officers working the streets of FLD and many keep their heads high even though morale is low. Like many that resigned, I too follow and I don’t regret the decision. I had many friends in the city before I joined FLPD and therefore I visit often. I keep in touch with some officers and so I get to hear what’s going on.

As far as job satisfaction, well, that goes from officer to officer. The city itself is not all that bad, except for some areas in the middle of the city. The problem that’s bugging many officers has to do with administration and of course the current salary. I’m not going to get into details in a public forum besides this is no longer my problem but one of the current men and women of FLPD.

As far as other departments are concern well, some things are a whole lot better in the realm of equipment and salary but micromanagement and rank pulling plagues where I work now. I am happier in this agency even though there is very little action. One thing is for sure, in this city, the citizens appreciate their peace officers and are happy to see them; contrary of where I used to work.

I visited Ft Lauderdale last June for two months. I attended flight schol in Pompano. I enjoyed the city. Commercial Dr, Federal Hwy. It looked like a safe place to me.

Thank you for your insight and comments FLPD698.

My comments are not there to discourage or a deter you from making a sound decision about employment on this city but rather to just informed you of some realities that exist in this agency. Right now you should filter and absorb as much information about every agency that’s hiring in South Florida before you jump into on particular one.

Salary and benefits are not always what some seek as the hook for signing on the dotted line. Some are looking for police orientated type work where you get to stretch your legs and turn on your disco balls all the time. Do a ride along and see it for yourself.
