Hi everyone! Ok if this post is out there I'm sorry I'm posting it again. Pretty new here k.

Here it goes!

Hi, I'm new to this thing and I have many questions about the MPD so here it goes!

1) I applied for the MPD position last month and I have the written exam in the later part of this month. I would like to know if this exam is difficult or relatively easy. What should I expect, is it anything like the NYPD written exam (which I have already taken and passed with a 94)? They gave us (my fiancé and I both applied) study packets but it wasn’t that thorough so we bought police exam books to practice with as well.

2) After the exam how long does it typically take to be summoned for the rest of the application process?

3) I am traveling back and forth from New York to Miami to take all my other exams, will the department accommodate by possibly grouping the exams (ex: PAT, Psych, Poly, Background, etc) so that it will be within a week? Or, will the rest of the process be once a month thing? Like, will I receive a letter for the PAT one month and a month after that I have to take the Poly?

4) What locations are labeled as good places to live in Miami, I already know that Little Haiti isn’t heaven so are there any other 'ghetto' or 'bad' places that I should know about? Or just tell me all the good locations to call home instead.

5) Do they hire relatively quickly? Will I be employed by early next year?

6) How long is the academy?

7) Is the pay period weekly, biweekly, or monthly?

The phone number that is given when I applied is a direct number to the city's HR department. They weren't helpful at all and I'm hoping that someone on here can either answer these questions for me or possibly give me a direct number to the department with someone who can answer these questions. Also who I can talk to about a ride along for my fiancé and I, if you have a number and a name for the person to talk to please let me know.

TY

For question 2. Its the highest score who gets the call first.

For question 3, No, they don't accommodate, the process takes about 3-4 months. It depends how high you scored on civil exam. If you score low but pass it will be a few months before they will call you.

For question 4, In the City of Miami areas that nice to live in are Silver bluff, the east side of Coconut Grove, Flagami, and West Little Havana. Around the county, Coral Gables, Miami Shores, Kendell, Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, Doral, Westchester, North Miami Beach, Miami Beach, Aventura, Miami Lakes Sunny Isles Beach, and Golden Beach are good places to live.

For question 5, the process is about 3-4 months long.

For question 6, the academy is 6 months long at Miami-Dade College, School of Justice. North Campus.

For question 7, biweekly, they work 4 days on and 3 days off, 10 hours shifts

For the the direct number to the personnel bureau (305) 579-6613

I hope this helps.
