It seems the guy shot after the standoff in Rumford may have been Tased first, but kept coming towards the officers. The other incident involved a passenger in a vehicle stopped by an officer in Waldoboro, a town near mine. There was a confrontation, then the subject fled into the woods.
This is the Portland Press Herald's story on both incidents (http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/story.php?id=136550&ac=PHnws). Didn't take the Monday Morning Quarterback Detective Squad very long to "investigate thoroughly," get it all figured out, and post their inane opinions in the paper's Reader Comments section. Some of those Armchair Experts ought to take a run through Hogan's Alley some day, and see how quickly they "lose the gunfight." I'm thinking Simunitions or whatever leaves a little reminder that you were slow, careless, or had too much "tombstone courage."

The real story is not known in either incident. Too many questions left unanswered by the newspaper accounts. Unfortunately, the other side of the issues will never be known as the participants are dead. Just proves the point, if you don't want to be killed don't place yourself in a situation where the police must take aggressive action that will cost your life.
