Sacramento Police Hiring Process

Hello all,

I am heading out to Sacramento Monday for expedited testing for the Sacramento Police Department. I know this is an overly broad question, but does anybody here have any opinions or insights on the process?

It's a good department with lots of options, from what I've researched. Next academy start time there is June 2008, if that is a factor for you.

I'm not a sworn officer (yet), so take my comments with a grain of salt. It appears to be easier to get hired with a large department to start out with (like Sac) if you do not have any law enforcement experience.

On the Sacramento 'hot jobs' link on this page (http://www.edd.ca.gov/hotjobscoolcustomers/hotjobs.htm), the document states an average of 369 annual law enforcement openings for the county. So seems like they are indeed hiring. :)

Thanks for the replies. I found out that the next academy is scheduled for January '08 and then there is one scheduled for June '08. Overall, I was very impressed with the department and I had a great time on the ride-a-long. Very squared away officers!

I'm just finishing up the Sac PD hiring process (tomorrow actually), and from what I've learned so far, it seems to be a great department and I have nothing but respect for the officers and non-sworn staff I've met so far. They've all been very helpful in my application process and all speak highly about the department.

I'm hoping to get into the January academy, and they also have a pre-hire program for those that have passed the application process and are waiting to enter the next academy. It pays the same as the academy (around $19/hr I believe), and you work various assignments at the police department substations, but I don't have any specifics on the job assignments.
