For a while, I've been curious about Ventura P.D. What are the pros and cons of working for this department? What is morale like?

I'm already in the process with another agency, but people are recommending that I apply for more than one. Ventura is another agency I'm interested in.

I've spoken to two officers from Ventura PD, They both say there is no other department that they would rather work for they love it there..
Two man units, 4 Ten's (shift), Plenty of OT and ALOT of new hires. They are looking to hire 20 more officers by the end of the year. I applied with them several months ago but withdrew my application because they have a requirement that you live within 1 hour of the city.

My LAPD Process

Yeah, I'm about 99.9% sure their Patrol units work 3 12.5's with 4 days off. Their banner is always flashing on the 101 Northbound side that they are recruiting. While I am only a volunteer there (not a reserve) I can tell you that all of the officers I have spoken with are/were very cool, and very approachable. Morale seems to be pretty good, along with that of the civilian employees. I can't offer you much more insight than that due to my limited function but I'm sure if you contacted the agency they would answer any further questions.

Most recently was the flashing electronic ad. They used to hang that banner but I always saw it broken due to wind.

VPD has had their share of internal politics. Over the past ten years IMO they have screwed several officers out of their retirement. But for the most part, every officer I have spoke to (and I used to know many on a professional level) were very happy with their job there.

Although they no longer have reserves (stopped that program in 97?) they have a huge cadet program.

Thanks for the replies. I've always been interested in the Santa Barbara County and Ventura County areas. Too darn expensive, but the area is beautiful.
