Before everyone jumps on me with the "what are you trying to hide" I will tell you I'm gun shy about the poly because of a bad experience with the polygraph. I dont know why but the examiner was convinced that I was lying about something really stupid. I had a great record in the military but facts didn't seem to matter.
Because of this I would rather not waste time and resources only to have some voodo magic 8 ball machine say I am lying.
so thats my situation.

I totally understand how you feel.
I passed 3 polygraphs and failed 1.
The golden rule is to keep trying. After around the 3rd poly, your body doesnt care no more. Your not near as nervous it kinda becomes routine..
Good Luck
My LAPD Process

Most agencies in socal that I know of use one or the other. There may be some out there that don't, but from my experience they all want some type of "lie detector". It is unfortunately one of the many hoops to go through to get this job.
