Does anybody have information/experience with this agency and what their process consists of? I took the written today and spoke to a deputy regarding past employment issues in regards to job stability and terminations.
The deputy explained to me that sdsd does not dq candidates with past employment issues. Ok, so I told myself this would probably fall in the category of different agencies have different standards.
Anyways, one thing that did concern me was that the deputy explained to me, " if you get dq'd in our background investigation you will not be hired on with any other LE agency and might as well work at wallmart" Is this true?

With all due respect to the deputy, that's absolutely impossible to predict. With hiring, many variables come into play and one agency can't predict what another will do. Perhaps, for recruitment reasons and such, the deputy was positioning San Diego Sheriff's Department as the hardest agency in SD to join. Makes sense from that angle.

Don't worry. Plenty of people have been DQ'd by one agency only to be hired by a competitor (e.g. LAPD/LASD).

Just because you get dq'd by one department it does not mean you will never get hired anywhere or anytime. It will depend on what the DQ was for. We just had an civilian employee that our department would not hire for a medical DQ and he was picked up by another city in the county immediately when he applied. Now if you get DQ'd by SDSD because you got caught lying, prior arrest record or something that every department DQ's for then you are obviously hosed.

Hey good luck Don. I tested with them to. To be honest though I'm really leaning towards CDCR

Its already been said.....but the Deputy is wrong. He is entitled to his opinion, but take it with a grain of salt. He probably has seen people get on with what he considers "shady" (whatever that means) backgrounds. Once again, thats his opinion, and obviously not the opinion of the panel who selected him.

Its all about what they are looking for. If they need to hire Spanish speakers, or say females this go around, they will adjust their standards to hit their goal or getting those people on. If you don't fall under that category, you may get skipped over for something that they may let slide for their target people group.

You never know. Simply be honest, but your best self forward and stay positive.

I recently got hired with SDSD and the whole background process was a smooth one provided that you are completely honest in regards to your PHS. I have found that few things are automatic disqualifiers but the circumstances surrounding those situations can be disqualifiying. Apply and find out. I have found that the background investigators were very accessable and helpful and its a great agency.

I found the process with the SDSD pretty easy. That's when they informed me of my appointments. They forgot to tell me of 2 and then called later asking why I didn't show. I told them that I never knew of them and would love to go to the next available. I love the Dept. I'm having more and more fun everyday.

Call and ask the background investigators. Their number is posted for questions like this. Then you can be sure.

Does SDSD mail out an orientation notice to all candidates that pass the written or to those that have the highest scores?

Maybe by this he meant that they are the most lenient, and if you can't get on there you can't get on nowhere
