Well, I received my first dq in the mail today from Riverside County Sheriff which stated, "We cannot disclose the reason for dq as stated on the No Feedback form you signed." Three weeks ago I turned in my background packet and was scheduled to meet with a BI last friday for an interview which never happened,(I received a phone call that the interview would be postponed). Does candidates often get dq'd prior to the background interview with the BI? I made copies of the background packet, I thoroughly reviewed everything today and I'm not sure what triggered an auto dq. The only possibility that came to mind may be drug usage, I experimented with marijuana two times, the last time being seven years ago. You know the funny thing is I have a cousin who is almost 23 yrs old, was a former gang member, was on probation until age 18, and has been with LASD (first agency he applied for) almost a year now. What I don't understand is how can a younger candidate like my cousin be qualified for a LE position with his past problems? It's obvious his actions were a lack of responsibility and maturity yet, here I am in my late twenties never got in trouble with the law, have good credit, earned a bachelors in business administration and I get dq'd before my background interview was conducted. One other thing, the letter does not mention anything that I can reapply in the future. Does this mean I cannot reapply ever again?

If you have a BI (as in name and telephone#) give him/her a call. I dont know if RSO has case managers or not but you can try them or at least personnel Division.

Bro, the process is hit-and-miss, at best. Perhaps someone gave negative info about you on a BG questionaire? Contact your BI. How can you appeal the DQ if you don't know what "it" is??? Ya know...

Dude, sometimes it's just not fair. I know guys that were outright savages and still got hired at any dept they applied for and Dudley Do-rights that have a hard as hell time. I can't figure it out. Just try to find out who the BI is and call. Maybe he/she will be human and tell you. Was this for a sworn position or a custody position?

I Don't think that could be an automatic DQ. I had "expiremented" numerous times over a 1 year period 10 years prior to the background. (By numerous, I mean a helluva lot more than twice, actual number disclosed to BI). I still got the job...
I don't think they would have gotten any of your letters back yet, you turned in the BG packet only 1-2 weeks before your scheduled interview, right?
Must have been something else in the packet you do not see....

I know that some agencies will pull credit right away. They also will pull DMV history and a criminal check. I am not saying anything but they will also review your pre investigative questionairre. If you did such a questionairre you will remember such questions such as, "Sometimes I give the finger when someone cuts me off in the road in anger".
Who knows what got you DQed and sometimes its not fair process. Hell I have been DQed by an angency before and I was not allowed to know why. Anyways good luck and reapply elsewhere. I am sure you will find out why and how your can resolve any issues regarding you in the background process.

The same thing happen to me, after 3 weeks, I received the dq letter.
I was as surprise as you, so I went to the court and ask if I had anything on my record, they said yes, to misdemeanor charges and a warrant for my arrest, WHAT!!!, well to make the story short, someone have stolen my ID. I came to the conclusion the maybe that was the reason. Then I check my Credit report, I found out that I had a collection that I was not aware of.
You should maybe consider doing the same.

Give a cookie to edt!! This is probably the best info I have seen in a long time. Know this BEFORE you submit any BG paperwork, and it will save you a ton of headaches.

It sounds like they may have ran your record and found something. As stated, might not be you. You might try the "Freedom of Information" act to find out why you were dq'd, or find an attorney who won't charge you your firstborn.

Oh man oh man, how true this. Look guys, I am a year or better away from applying for a probation officer position once I have my degree, and I have begun the process now to clear anything up that I may need to explain later. This is proof that things can nip you in the bud, and you have no clue. I am really not sure how extensive the BG is for POs, but I want to be ready. I do have records of all my past employers, I went and did a LiveScan of my fingerprints just to CYA, and had those results within 3 days. I'll be checking my credit too a couple of times before I begin applying as well just to CYA. Anything that may raise a red flag with the background investigators, I am documenting, and anyone would be well advised to do the same. I just believe in keeping my own front porch clean, and I want to be ready. There is tons of great information on this website, do a search and you'll probably find some great advice. ;)

If you need your credit report I think federal law states you can get it for free once a year. I just got mine from this link for my bg

Forget any hope of them telling you why you were DQ'ed esecialy if it was info from someone you know. Might be some prior police contact that they have on you in their records, or maybe an idenity theft issue like someone already said. What is oyur employment history? Any terminations? that can end your BI before it begins.

I was terminated from a job about six years ago due to my production. Today, I met with a BI from Riverside County Sheriff at a job fair and he explained to me that the prior termination would not be an auto dq. All I can do now is apply with other agencies and move on.

Does anyone know if a BI from another agency I apply for will have access to my background packet from Riverside Sheriff? Or will they only know the reason to why I was dq'd?

When you apply at a new agency, the waivers you sign will give them access to your Riverside background. However, the new agency cannot DQ you based solely on Riverside's DQ. They can only use that DQ as a pointer or indicater regarding where to look. They must independently investigate whatever the problem is and can only bounce you if it meets the new agency's criteria for DQ.

When I did BI's, I'd take the signed waiver to every agency you applied to, and check their background file. If I could confirm incidents that were grounds for denial, it used to save a lot of time. And - yes - what you did in high school counts.
