Hi, I was wondering if anyone graduated from the Palomar Police academy in the city of San Marcos or is currently attending the academy. How much did it costs? Any tips? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Why not try to get hired first before you put yourself through. You get paid to go through and you have a job at the end. SDPD and SDSD are hiring like crazy.

I went through a reserve academy there about 12 years ago before gettign picked up and going to a full academy. Their full extended academy has some advantages such as graduating just a couple classes shy of an AA in criminal justice. Unfortunately, you have to pay for the academy and are not earning a salary while doing so. Try to get picked up by a department first.....as mentioned there are a lot of departments hiring right now (SDPD,SDSO,Riverside SO,etc).

As far as the academy itself it is run by mostly Oceanside, Carlsbad and Escondido PD personnel with some Sheriff deputies and others thrown in. Because of the POST learning domains you will be learning/studying almost the exact same thing as the regional MiraMar academy. I was there a couple of years ago doing recruit evaluations for their final exams and they seem pretty squared away. The PT there actually seemed a little more rigorous than Mira Mar.

I also agree with everyone...You should try and get picked up by an agency and let them pay you and for the costs... I'm not sure what is included in the price but you'll have to consider firearms and other equipment costs. Plus if you graduate from an academy and pay your way there is no guarantee you'll get hired by an agency upon graduation... good luck
