Two In Baltimore

haven't heard all of the details yet (names) but two Baltimore City PD offcers, a sergeant and officer from the North East District were killed in an accident at about 0400 this morning. Their vehicle was struck by another vehicle that ran thrugh a stop sign. The driver of that vehicle was DWI and reportedly had a BAC of .13. When the names are released i will post again./

I must apologize for the poor typing in the earlier post. I was a little shaken and did not proof read it.
The names of the two Baltimore City officers are Sergeant John Platt and Officer Kevin McCathy. Platt had seventeen years of service and was 35. McCarthy had fifteen years of service and was 36.
The driver of the vehicle that struck them,Shane Weiss,was charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI.

I read in an article that the truck that hit them struck the police car with such force that bolts were blown out. It also took them 30 minutes to get the officers out of the car. Here is the article.

*Officer Kevin McCarthy and Sergeant John Platt were killed when their cruiser was broadsided at an intersection by a drunk driver. The two officers were on routine patrol in a residential area when the driver of the pickup truck failed to obey a stop sign and broadsided the cruiser at a high rate of speed. The impact caused the cruiser to flip over and strike a utility pole. Both officers were killed instantly. Neither occupant of the pickup truck was injured. The driver of the vehicle was charged with DUI with other charges pending.
