I know departments really stress about being physically fit. How much does your performance count as to be selected in the academy? During the hiring process will achieving a higher score/time on the PAT or physical assessment help greatly in being referred first over those who did not perform well?

Don951, the physical agility test is really just a pass/fail test, as stated before. Riverside then does 2 physical assessments during the background process, basically to see if you are getting yourself in shape for the academy. The assessments consist of push-ups in 1 min ( I think they want you to do more than 40), sit-ups in 1 min (also 40 or more is wanted), then you run 1.5 mi (under 13 mins). These assessments are really what they want to see your physical ability. I'm not sure if they are really used for hiring people, as they are very short staffed (as is everyone) and it seems as though they're hiring anyone who passes the background. Hope this helps??
