..just heard, and I guess the news is desperate for a NEW police scandal" locally. it seems that the neighbor to ol' Maywood Pd, Bell PD- a Dept of roughly 45 officers ,is now under investigation by the FBI for "systematic" abuse of citizens.apparently in addition to complaints of abuse and corruption( yup, the media and our big "holier than thou" brothers in the FBI,just love those terms),there seems to be at least (2) serious complaints- one of an officer booked for ADW and stalking ,and another for a traffic stop rape of a local maywood citizen.guess you aren't truly a Ca. police dept, until your name and your officers have been slammed and badmouthed in scandal...anybody got more info on whats going on in Bell PD?(the city website has been down for months)

It's hard enough to attract good people to departments offering good pay, benefits and a comfortable working environment. Could you imagine how difficult it is for some departments to get decent applicants? Even with the best to offer, it's very difficult competing with the private sector during relatively good fiscal times.

Its more the "generation" than just the candidates- we're seeing the PS2 generation coming up- they are selfish and single minded in the "what I want" mentality. The job is not something to be enthralled by anymore- its a paycheck, plain and simple.code of ethics and conduct are only terms to nod your head to until they pass you on probation,or no ones looking.and i disagree on the better paying jobs- sure there are quite a few,but they require alot more hustle and deadlines than police work-in most depts yuo see only 10-15% of the guys/girls really knocking themselves out to do the job-everyone else is basically "treading water".Its the generation of the "PC" officer and slackers and sliders take advantage of this;ditto that for those "unsat" individuals who want the job for the "wrong reasons"...

And what would the right reason be? TO be a hero? To make a change? To do the right thing? To be a part of the solution and not the problem? It seems to that every year they want to hear some new utopitarian PC reason to be in LE.

LE is almost not worth working anymore. There are too many people in it who just don't give a crap about anybody but themselves. It's hard not to when the whole world is after your badge including your co-workers. And to top it, you have arse hats like the stalker who make everyone look bad.

I'd love to entertain a solution to the issue. The Maywood mentality is just the beginning and it's spreading.

I searched for the information about Bell PD and could not find anything as yet. Perhaps it will be up later.

I am already on my way out. I really think I would be happier at a small town PD out of state.

Not to discredit you, but I think it is very easy to look at younger people or those who come after you and have that mindset. Im just a young pup in the academy, yet its easy to look at a junior class and think - "they're salty", "our class had it way harder" ect. I really think the majority of my class can and want to do the job and maintain the values. Personally, if I just wanted a paycheck, i wouldve stayed at UPS and milked that cow. Dont be too discouraged, most of us (that I know) are here for the right reason. Also, 3-07 has a lot of good LAX recruits coming your way! If you are an FTO, you'll definately have fun with this group.

I thought about that too, but for me, I don't necessarily think I would be happy at a small town out of state. California LE has been a hoot,,it's just changed (maybe it's just my department has changed). I just can't wait to retire and move out of state. I'm done with this gang/drug/crime infested state. You basically have to be wealthy to live anywhere decent. Where I live, the few streets are nice,,then your driving by dirt bags, parolee's, gangsters and tweekers ect..I've had it.

No,ejay- its still a worthwhile job- all the crap involved,et al! and those who want it for the "wrong reasons"?? I had academy classmates over 18 yrs ago who should NEVER have been in L.E.(several were quickly disposed of).I'm referring to those folks who have an ax to grind, those folks who want a gun and badge to "teach people a lesson"-your pal "Keke" has a "doppleganger" on the job with that little man complex! the others? the "i just want a pay check" types who don't "put out" and find EVERY excuse under the sun to M.F. and cheat the system- those are the ones I'm talking about-those are the ones that cause most of any Depts problems...
