Hello,
I was wondering of anyone here has any knowledge of T-scores? On August 18th, I took the written test for the Sacramento Police and received a T-score of 66.00. I know that I passed, but I have no idea where my score relates in terms of the average distribution of scores. Also, I will be going back out to Sacramento to finshing the testing process next month and was wondering if anyone could share any info about the hiring process?
Thanks for any information!

Your test score depends on what test you took. Many agencies use some of the same questions but not the same test. California has not standardized it's testing for law enforcement as far as I know. I have not seen a law enforcement test that you could get less than 70 percent without failing. 66 for your test could mean anything from how many questions you got right, to the calculated average.

Here is the explanation per POST standards..........................
http://www.post.ca.gov/faqs/entrylevel_testscor.asp
"...Users of the test battery receive a computer printout which lists, for each applicant, total score on the writing tests, total score on the reading tests, and total score on the entire test battery. Total score on the writing tests and total score on the reading tests are expressed both as percents and as "t" scores. Total score on the entire battery is expressed as a "t" score only. Users also receive summary information regarding total sample, sample by gender, sample by ethnicity, and a table which assists in identifying relative ethnic and gender performance..."

Just to let you know what it means compared to other people in the academy, you would be somewhere in the top 10-15%. Back in the academy we all compared scores and that is a pretty decent number.

That's a great score. I believe the highest score possible is about a 77 or so. Departments I've seen have a pass/fail line in the 40s or 50s, depending on the department. You are definitely in the top ring.

Per POST, presently, the average cut score being set by agencies is around T=46 and the average cut score being set by college academies is T=42. Sacramento Sheriffs cut is T=60 and Sacramento PD is T=42.

Thanks to everyone that replied. Spikeone, that is very interesting that there is such a large difference between the Sacramento Sheriffs Department and the City Police in terms of a cut score.
