Does anyone know the drop out rate in the academy? I surprised to see how many people were not physically fit and could not pass the physical assessment the other day. Out of fifty applicants I was one of four people who can do fifty push ups and sit ups in one minute. lol

Depends on which academy of course but figure from 10-20%. Don't get too cocky though. There is more to the academy then pushups and sit ups.

OCSA had/has about a 25% attrition rate.

More people are lost through academics and tactics in the academy than PT.

A good number of people are lost in the first days of the LAPD Academy, due to being (how do I say this?) told what to do, and when, in somewhat less than a sweet, soothing, voice that doesn't sound like anybody on NPR. The standing in formation, spit-shining shoes, wearing a business suit, marching, and running everywhere double-time, seems not to be like life was at college, pushing fast-food, working for Blockbuster, or living with mom and dad, or the nanny. They absolutely thought there would be no stress, or that it couldn't effect them. Go figure!

We started with 78 and graduated 50 at Fullerton. We probably would have graduated about 45 if it had not been for our class working together extremely well. It really does make a huge difference.

In Fresno we started with 56, and graduated 35. From what I understand, Fresno is the most demanding academy in this area. Just what I heard, don't shoot!

My academy started with 56 and 37 graduated.
Though I don't understand how they failed/quit. It truely is not that difficult.

Started with 62...graduating 44. Yes the academy is that hard...I don't care what anyone says. Most drop due to academics, or a combination of things that show that you will not be a good peace officer.
