Deputy Bill Bowman was accidentally shot to death by another SWAT team member during an exercise that was not supposed to involve live ammunition on Tuesday.

Deputy Bowman left behind a wife and two children, ages 3 years old and 3 months old. He was with the sheriff's department for six years and was assigned to the patrol division. He had been a member of the SWAT team for two years.

Deputy Bowman was shot and killed during a SWAT training exercise in which he was participating with other members of his agency's SWAT team at Camp Rilea, Oregon. Deputy Bowman and ten other officers were training in a mock building when a live round was fired from another officer's weapon and struck him in the head. Only dummy rounds were supposed to be used in the exercise.

Deputy Bowman was the first county deputy to be killed in the line of duty since 1981. He had been with the agency for six years and had been part of the SWAT team for two years. He is survived by his wife and two children, ages three years and three months.

I can only try to imagine the devastion felt by those on the Clackamas County SWAT team... as well in the entire department. This is truly a tragedy.

Rest in peace... Deputy Bowman. I'll say my prayers for your young family.
