I will have my POST REQUAL (Lateral) completed in October. I was looking for any information on these department. Such as shifts, moral and working conditions. I will be moving to the Eastbay area so if there are any better Departments let me know.

oakland or richmond?-"the fire or the frying pan"??? both are good, but I've heard there are MORE officer safety issues with richmond then Oakland- both are short handed and the 'customers' they serve are hard knocks-through and through !Alameda PD,Alameda county sheriffs- idon't know ,you'll ahve to make that decision for yourself

Richmond is the suburb of Oakland!!:D :D :D

It's like comparing apples to apples.

My advice is to keep looking. EVERYONE is hiring, especially laterals.

For the record Richmond PD and CoCo SO just worked 6 separate shootings in within the last 36 hours around Northtown and the Iron Triangle. Richmond staffs 9 beat officers for a city with over 100,000. Berkeley PD runs an 18-beat system in a city of comparable size. Oakland usually has 5 to 10 beats open even with madatory OT and at some times only 35 beat officers on duty in a city of 450,000.

Not to mention that you can shag paper for 459 autos and barking dogs all day long, no stress, in Santa Clara for about 10,000 bucks more per year.

As far as more exciting cities go, I hear great things about San Pablo. I've been told the dept. is tight knit and there is tons of admin. support. I even read about how a now-retired police chief had no qualms about calling his officers "street soldiers" much to the avail of Bay Area cop-haters.
