Hi all, I just registered to this site. I'm currently in the background process with Riverside county sheriff for correctional deputy. Does anyone Have any knowledge or personal experience with this department as DST/CO? The recruiting staff seems nice and helpful but I know people have mixed feelings with different agencies.

Welcome. I'm currently a patrol Dep with RSO. Just remember one main thing if you get hired. The sworn Deps are it. There is a little problem with the CD's thinking they run the show.

Bully, how many applicants does RSO usually put in the academy each month?

Not sure, but I would guess about 60 - 80.

A buddy of mine who is a CD and doesn't think he runs the show. He know his place. However, he is also not happy with his department and says morale is low.

I see alot of that in the jails. It seems to me that it is directly related to the low levels of staffing. Lots of MANDATORY overtime. Add to that the fact that they are hiring any tool with a clean background, and it almost creates a hostile work environment.

SoCalSheriff,

That is the chief complaint I am hearing from him. He is wondering why or how people are clearing background. Not to mention they are having problems with new guys thinking they don't have to listen to the senior CD's.

BTW, I have been looking for confirmation that Orwell said your sig. I also found quotes giving it to Churchill.

These are just a few different sites. Couldn't locate any contributing this to churchill, though.......

***Please note*** None of these are EXACTLY the same, but all are close enough that I would atribute this to Orwell. You know how things get a little mixed up over time....

It seems that the Background for CD's might not be in depth as to a deputy sheriff position thus the quicker hiring of CD's which potentially can result in not qualified candidates for the job.

SoCal Sheriff,
Yes, but where/when/how did he say it? None of these sites tell that. In fact the last site even says it is only "attributed" to him. The reason I ask is because I like it so much. Thanks.
