Hello,
I was DQ’d by LASD and just got my letter in the mail last Friday. I want to appeal and wondering what do I need to put on initial appeal letter (request). How long the letter needs to be, or what needs to be said on it? I’ll appreciate any help.
Thank you.

I assume that your DQ letter was extremely vague. Did it give a date in which you could reapply?
I would sit down and write a very contrite letter that goes into detail of your past transgressions, what you have done to correct them, and describe that you are a completely different person. Avoid excuses and blaming others, just come clean with facts only.

"will police" has good info- but sometimes- candidates just get D.q'ed.you might be- in someones opinion, not right for the job( a combo of your personal history, job history,etc)-I truly hope you applied for MORE than just LASD,as you might have options.also, you and you alone KNOW you're personal "dirt"- I advise people who have a little "dust" in their past to sit and talk to a background person PRIOR to applying for a Dept. "Gene76"- if you KNOW you're a clean candidate, not only do yuo appeal, but you need to find out exactly what they DQ'ed you for- i once got D.Q'd on the "life experience/maturity" issue when I was 21 from a dept -thats NOW defunct;at the same time, 2 larger local Depts passed me in their backgrounds! it happens sometimes,so stay encouraged-if LASD says "no", they are NOT the end all /be all in So.calif L.E. if you really want a job...

Just a word of advise, (take it from someone that was in your shows couple months ago) the DQ letter sent to you states that you have 10 days from the postmark of the letter to appeal. Also in that letter they want a reason and proof to the error that was made regarding the decision for your disqualification.
Right now they are cherry picking applicants.
If you intend to appeal, then you are saying that the reason you want to appeal is because they truly made a mistake then gather all facts, letters from witnesses and start writing. Dont forget to send it USPS Certified Mail.
If the reason you want to appeal is because you feel they made a mistake because you been a productive member of society for the past 10 years and that they should overlook the drug, theft, ect ect issues that you admitted to or was found out about during your backgrounds investigation then I suggest you send them a thank you letter for their time and money spent on you and move on to the next departments application process.
Good Luck!
