Hiring need in St.Louis Co.?

Anyone know what the hiring need is for St.Louis county? I've applied for what I thought was the next academy date of 9/23/07. but I recently looked on the home page for the County and the start date was moved back to 10/08/07. Anyone know what gives? Do they not have enought candidates?
Any Ideas?

They have always been wishy washy about hiring. They need officers but they always drag their feet with new hires for what ever reason.

It's odd. I always hear from officers that their department needs people. You'd think they'd be more aggressive hiring.
