Who out there is interested in applying with this department? What are the pros/cons of this department? Their website gives a lot of information that makes it sound like a great place to work. Who out there currently works for the department can give some inside information?

Two former Dept partners of mine left for WPD! nice place, decent mgm't- just small and boring( to them !One said it was like he never left LAX-both went over to Santa Ana PD 3 yrs later) trained with some of the officers- they seem VERY sharp and focussed, but there is very little promotional growth or opportunities to work more than patrol from what I heard-Whittier snatched the contract of Sante Fe springs up from LASD,but I don't think that added alot of Action to the Dept.i know its a popular choice among the SGV/Mid cities "locals"(guys who grew up in the area and want to stay local in terms of policing)The pay, training, team work, tough on rookies, and retirement is good. The Only other area Depts I'd say look into are West Covina PD,arcadia PD, Alhambra PD,covina PD- good luck !!!

Thanks for the heads up DOAcop38. I applied for Covina PD as well. So far I have passed the PAT, Written, and Oral board.

There website gives a lot of good information. Something about special assignments lasting 5 years then 1 year to patrol until you can apply for another special assignment.

Anyone on here work for Whittier PD?

kravist, I don't recall seeing any Whittier cops posting on this forum. Seeing that you're interested in Whittier, have you considered the City of Downey? Medium sized PD in the same general area as WPD. Plenty of action, numerous specialty assignments and comparable pay to Whittier.
