We placed our order for 40 Cal and .223 ammo at the beginning of the year and we didn't get it in time for our first range day several months later. We ended up having to do more scenario training in lieu of shooting due to lack of ammo. The company we ordered from claimed it was due to the ammo shortage from the war. Interresting to see the surplus.

Did you try the local gun supply store? I haven't had any problem buying ammo. I also haven't seen any increase in price.

In many cases, your armorer or rangemaster can't just walk into the local gun shop and buy a couple thousand rounds on a department credit card. More often than not, those agencies are obliged to buy from vendors who have either responded to a bid or are on a preferred vendors list. When that's the case, the manufacturer themselves often responds to the bids or is the sole vendor on the preferred list.

If by law, your agency is obliged to buy directly from Remington or Winchester, and they're focusing their efforts on fulfilling their contractual obligations to the US Government, then you're going to experience supply problems.

I spend MANY hours a week dealing with this (often) archaic process. New York is probably worse than most other states I've dealt with.
