Hello,

I have a scheduled interview for the Riverside Sherriff and I was wondering what to expect? Also can anyone give me some pointers on what things I need to do before getting into the academy? Any kind of insight would be appreciated. thanks.

Keep your answers short, relatively simple and do not ramble on (even if you think you could "better" explain things). Know a little about the organization (number of deputies on the department, size and population of the county, how many stations they have and where). Know the reasons why you want the job and tell them at the end of the interview (they usually give you an opportunity to give a closing statement) that you want this job. You'd be surprised how many people fail to mention this.

Unless you were told you would have with the Lieutenant, it's pretty easy.

I had an Interview about 1 1/2 years ago. To my surprise, my background investigtor was actually the interviewer. Understand, the only thing question asked was, "Why do want to be in law enforcement?, know that question.

If nothing has changed, then that will most likely be it. It may depend on your investigator.

The only "interview" is w/ the BI. It is mainly to clarify any questions they may have before the Background process is started. Be prepared to tell them WHY you want to work for RSO. As far as pointers before the academy: Learn to polish your boots and GET IN SHAPE NOW. I was suprised how few people in my academy class were physically prepared for it. You can make it without preparing physically, but it will be difficult. You should be able to do 60 pushups / 60 situps in the 2 minute time frame and have your 1 1/2 mile run time down to at least 10 1/2 minutes before day one of the academy. You will get a packet of info prior to your start date. The Law Enforcement Code of Ethics is big at the academy. If you struggle w/ memorization, start working on it now. You will be expected to recite it verbatum, with no errors, even while under stress by the end of the 4th week. (1 paragraph per week, starting w/ week 1.)

I have sat on a few of our hiring boards and you would be surprised how unprepared people were. Just a little knowledge of the area/department/job goes a long way.
