Rebecca,
You usually have the full story on an officer being killed, but I couldn't wait on this tragity.
This is too sad...
We just had an Atlanta Police Officer killed while working and accident on one of the highways that cut Atlanta into sections.
He was off the right-of-way along with the 2 vehicles involved in the wreck.
A man in a van hit him, in the emergency lane, dragging him over 100 feet before he came loose and rolled to a stop. The driver then fled the scene, trying to get away.
One of the individuals involved in the initial accident climbed into his vehicle, ran him down and trapped him on the highway unil authorities could arrive. He was a hero.
I heard this while driving home from the Police Academy, after class, and didn't get the particulars. They will be forthcoming later today I'm sure.
The young officer was a Police Academy graduate of 1 month...
Something like this just's cuts you through the heart. Such a tragic waste.
This is Atlanta's 3rd or 4th Officer down this year. A 1 month old child (figuratively speaking as far as cutting his teeth on Policing), Lord only knows what type of seasoned officer he may have become.
We'll never know. Each and everyone of us has a date with eternity...I only hope he was ready for his change to another Department.
Rest in Peace Little Brother,
Such a short time as a rookie down here. But, not to worry, you will have all the time in the world at your next assignment to do the job you wanted to do.
Rest in Peace,
Your transfer has been approved.
