All hell broke loose... and when all was said and done... we had lost another Deputy Sheriff...

************************************************** *****

*Deputy Sheriff Bruce Evans
Jackson County Sheriff's Department, MS

Cause of Death: Vehicular assault
End of Watch: July 18, 2000
Date of Incident: July 18, 2000
Time of Incident: 2030 hours
Age: 29
Tour of Duty: 3 yr
Suspect Info: Charges pending

Deputy Evans was killed after being struck by a vehicle being pursued by other officers on State Route 613. Deputy Evans and his partner had setup a roadblock when they were notified that the pursuit was about to enter their county. The suspect vehicle came to a stop approximately one and half miles from the roadblock and Deputy Evans was notified the pursuit was over. The officers began to drive to where the pursuit had ended when shots were fired and the suspects fled again. Deputy Evans stopped on the shoulder and the officers took cover behind his vehicle.

More shots were fired approximately 200 yards from Deputy Evans' location and the suspect vehicle exited the roadway, striking the cruiser at 85 mph. As Deputy Evans and his partner tried to move out of the way his cruiser struck him, pinning him underneath. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect and another occupant of the vehicle received minor injuries in the accident and were arrested the scene. The driver was charged with capital murder and aggravated assault of a police officer.

Deputy Evans had been with the agency for three years and is survived by his wife and two young children.

************************************************** *****

My heart and prayers go out to Deputy Evans' widow and children... and to all of law enforcement, especially Jackson County. This is one of those times when you know what kind of real danger you are in... and all you can do is your best. Deputy Evans did his best. I'm so very sorry this has happened.

May he rest in peace.

And God be with you all.

Another, and another, and yet another, and yet still another one!

So many Lord,

Representatives of law and order down here.

Taken for what? So that some scumbag can stand in front of a judge, while having a bottomsucker plead his case? Explaining, how his defendant did not know a cop was in the persuing car?

Or that he was afraid that the police were going to treat him like he was rodney king? It doesn't matter what his race was. I've had both white and black make that statement.

Irreguardless of his reasons or the cause for. He will still be alive to plead his side of the story. The unfairness of the sustem against him.

Even posssibly, a group of morons pickting and pleading for his life. If he should be found guilty and sentenced to death, then how many will grieve for his life if it is to be taken? How many will agonize over how harsh the sentence?

Of the morons worring about the perp who is enjoying all of this attention. His hoping some of it will help him in his fight for HIS life?

How many will think of Deputy Bruce Evans? His wife without her husband?
His children without their Daddy?

If the death sentence is given, he will spend years and years in appeals and stalling stratagies to avoid his last walk.

A walk he has has plenty of time to prepare for, whereas Deputy Evans had a micro-second.

Such a small moment to say goodby.

To tell his wife how much he loved her.

To tell his children that he was sorry to not to be there with them as they developed and grew up.

Or that when they held their children in there arms and thought of him that he would be thinking of them.

Because with his last thought it was to them and their mother that he had said, "I love you, bye..."

Just a moment, a micro-moment. That has to last his family a lifetime...

And him? An eternity...

Rest in Peace Brother.
Your transfer has been approved.
Rest in peace
