OK here is the two cent version of my problem.... I graduated from a Southern California Sheriff's academy on 04/2006. I went on patrol from 04/2006 to 09/2006 ( Phase Training )... I did not pass phase training due to one problem I had in the field. Map book orientation/ location. I resigned in lieu of term.

I had a personal conflict with the FTO admin over the way I resigned. This person stated to me that I will never work in law enforcement again as long as he was around. By GOD he was right!!!!!!!! I have applied with multiple agencies and I have passed every aspect of the process with flying colors. When it comes time for my BI to go and check up with my old dept. the process comes to a halt and I am DQ'd. They say things which are true but blown out of proportion.

Hold on....... I know you are thinking I am blaming my old dept. for my failure, but I am not I take responsibility for my difficulty during my phase and I have fixed my problems. If my old dept. does not want me that's cool but they should not be hammering me so I can't prove myself with a different agency.

If there are any Background SGT's, investigators, or recruiters from any California agencies who need academy trained officers PM me.

Sorry so long.... Stay Safe Thanks.........

understand the frustration(we've talked) hang in and be patient;as long as your are getting you bills paid (FOR NOW) you should be okay-withthe city of L.A. it takes between 8 to 12 mos still for them to process an applicant(despite all the B.S. they claim of expedited process);had a buddy who resigned from LAPD to come to my Dept- she saw and TOLD about 2 BAD OIS incidents and a questionable use of force( what was she supposed to do? she was a probie and getting "pressure" from I.A.D)-it took 7 mos. for her, despite the FACT that the city already had all her training and background info( She's now an FTO);Her former div.Capt swore she'd never allow my friend to work in L.E.( 3 mos later that SAME LAPD Capt had to resign and was facing jail time for helping her outlaw biker boyfriend with a DVD/CD piracy ring as well as Meth distribution).

its tough ,but it isn't the "end".Also, stay away from "problem" or last chance Depts; Anybody on this board who knows of a Dept in So.Calif that processes fast(er)?......

I feel you. My situation is not nearly as frustrating as yours, but I've had problems processing too because of BG stuff, so I feel you in that respect. Stay positive and let's hope you have a good story to tell in the end.:)

NOT going to "out" any Depts, but I know civilian personnel who work my Dept that can't get on an agency locally- they have told me about several depts inSo.Calif. that offer "paid reserve" jobs that aren't exactly having recruits and laterals beating down there doors. These places often don't have stable mgm't or the pay is very LOW,or there is high turn over.....

when it comes down to "the honorable Capt Julie Nelson"( now EX Capt) its "so"..(makes you wonder about how many top brass types in each Dept are involved in "dirt"-the same ones who HAVE NO PROBLEM holding an officers career in their hands during terminations and IA complaints)......

They-MAYWOOD PD - are "hiring", flyer sez' $4,386.00 to $5,331.00 +"benifits"(BENEFITS) -LOLOLOLOLOL!!! but ,HEY!!!! they are a local L.E. agency ,the city has moderate to alot of activity ;they've contracted to patrol even raunchier "crud" ahay(Cudahy,CA).Despite any negative press the Dept has been a stabilizing presence in the community, and unlike some cities, there has never been talk of disbanding the Dept and they offer 3%@55
www.cityofmaywood.com .sometimes you have to be "Realistic and apply where there is a need, especially if you are struggling to "get on the job";I always advise alot of applicants to "look around" and toss applications....

My agency will hire anyone who should be a cop. We understand about background issues. We hired one guy who was fired from his last cop job due to personality conflicts. He told me that no other agency would hire him and that our BI investigators are the best he ever saw at getting to the truth. I am not saying we will hire other agencies rejects, but we will do a very Thorough BI and if you were wronged or the agency is telling lies to screw you, we will find that out. PM me for more info but I will tell you up front if the reason you left had anything to do with lying or drugs then don't waste your time. We are located in the OC have 165 cops and top out about $6500. We need 19 guys in the next year, but we do not hire liars, druggies or lops.

But thats nothing "new"- we hired a guy who was on the Sgts list for San diego co.Sheriffs when he got canned- he had been in a long running feud with a Station Capt he liked to jam up on union violation issues-well that capt got his revenge; That guy came over to my Dept and now after 4yrs he made Sgt !! The only thing that sucks now is that LAPD is in CONTROL of the entire background process for officers in the city of L.A.,regardles of whether they work LAPD or the other city specialized PDs! now all we get are FAT,goofy,NO LIFE experience folks who seem better suited as accountants, book keepers,or computer geeks( they come out of LAPD academy as FAT as they went in!!) and you literally have to beat them with a stick to go and arrest someone,as they always make "excuses" for why they want to let people go !( I see alot of them with a civie mentality, they won't even carry their guns off duty becuase they still THINK like "civies") sometimes it does suck to see depts that won't give folks a "shot";heck where I am we NEED an add'l 80 officers-even ImachU's folks need at least 100 ! Unless the war ends soon, where are we gonna' get these people?

last chance dept for people that keep getting non selected = CDC.. I wonder if that would be the best route for people like me to get our foot in the door.
I received the letter from LACOPS that I was disqualified because I was deceptive while answering questions regarding past employment (Im so confused on this one since I have been at my current job for 5 years and the previous job I was with them for 4 years then laid off and I have been the model employee at both places.) They also mentioned that I admitted to stealing and I did admit to downloading MP3s before it was unlawful to do so and they are holding that against me.. Im at strike 2 now Non select from LASD and DQ from LACOPS. Im currently in the Backgrounds process for LAPD in which I still have my fingers crossed that they look past the MP3 thefts and the misdemeanor theft that occurred 15 years ago that I admitted that got me none selected by LASD..

Everyone says I should have just kept my mouth shut about this one. If I would have never admitted to this, I would have already been in one of their academies. (was never arrested or caught, they asked me if I ever stole anything and out of honesty and integrity I told them the truth)

With LASD I indicated the theft on my Personal History Statement
and also on the Pre poly questionaire forms. So it was before the actual poly.

CDCR needs a ton of people right now, and will be needing them for quite some time with the new prison reform bill & re-organization the department is going through. Use caution though, I check in with this blog fairly often...the COs there now are not even recommending it to their own families. You be the judge.....

o yeah i know all about it, plus been hanging out at the pacovilla forum from time to time. To me it will be worth it to get my foot in the door and lateral to another agency outside of state corrections after a year or two. I honestly think it would be the only way for me but I have one "pitch" left with LAPD and if i strike out then Owe well at least I tried and CDCR here I come. I really hate to be like this and I know there are so many people that look at my situation and say "Dude, cant you tell it wasnt meant for you be in a LEO, you should just throw in the towel". My wife and kids are saddened because I have burned up all of my vacation/personal days to attend LASD, LACOPS & LAPD hiring process events but I still keep trying and I probably wont give up.
Either way thanks for the Intel that article was quite interesting.

WOW your absolutely right, I was actually planning on NOT to appeal but realizing with other agencies they might wonder why I didnt.. I'll have the appeal letter mailed out via certified letter by tomorrow afternoon.
Hey DOA, Im attending the Candidate Assistance & Mentoring Program on Century Blvd for LAX PD from 1900 to 2100 hours on 12/15. Was told there will be about a dozen or more officers there to mentor recruits like me. Was wondering by any chance if you were gonna be there?

The thing about corrections is you cant actually lateral. They have a different type of POST. I know this because at one point I thought about lateraling to parole and they told me that I would need to do their academy all over again. It wasnt that big of a deal, their academy is more of a class than an academy but the point is you cant get the basic POST that will allow you lateral. Your better off trying PD's. There are tons of them. Just remember to keep all your paperwork and remember everything you told the other agancies. Any descrepencies will be seen as a lie.

Wow, lots of interesting topics on here.

I’m thinking about coming to CA, from MN to work as a police officer. I have my Degree in criminology. MN skills training and MN POST. I’m 43 and work in health care. I have always wanted to be a police officer and I don’t want to look back regret that I did not try. I have 2 marks on my background. 1. DWI in 2002. 2. Bad credit, due to house I owned. I got caught up in the big housing boom and bought a house I could not afford.

IV talked to recruiter in San Diego. And she said, just test and see what happens. If anyone has any advice, or can recommend other departments. I take constructive criticism well.

If you have never been an active MN LEO your MN POST isn't going to transfer over here. So if you are ready for an academy apply.

I don't understand your question.

Just about any agency in CA will allow you to test and you will fill out an application. You will however most likely be attending an academy if you get hired.

I think he means that to apply with SDPD ("walk-in"), you just show up to a place and time a written exam is taking place. LAPD does the same.

SDSD and LASD both have "walk-in" applications and tests that you have to schedule a spot to take the test, otherwise too many people can show up.

I don't understand your question.
