Officer Hetrick was killed when his cruiser was struck by a tractor trailer while he was on routine patrol. Officer Hetrick was assisting another agency as additional manpower, and was driving the other agency's cruiser, when the incident occurred. He had just finished investigating and accident and was driving on State Route 51 in heavy fog when a tractor trailer pulled out from a side street, colliding with his cruiser. Officer Hetrick died at the scene. He is survived by his wife and three children.
