Deputy Heller was killed in an single car automobile accident while responding to an assistance call. Deputy Heller was responding to assist another deputy with a mental patient with a possible weapon. As Deputy Heller was driving on southbound on U.S. Route 113 his 2000 Ford Crown Victoria left the roadway and struck a group of trees, ejecting him. Upon impact the cruiser burst into flames. Deputy Heller was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. He had been in law enforcement for 13 years and had been with the Worcester County Sheriff's Office for four years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, ages 9 and 14.
